The introduction of Microsoft’s Vista system a few years ago was watched by the technical world with apprehension. Many were not happy with the change. The comparison of the two systems, as we began using the new Vista, did not help our feelings either. We had to re-learn several operations and it just took longer. And Vista was slower than XP in running some applications.

When Vista was introduced you could not mix Vista and the older XP on the same network. I remember having an impossible situation with one network on a static IP. The Vista workstations would not function with the server and patches from Windows for this very popular bookkeeping software was not yet available. It was best to not mix these systems and many companies stayed with XP and waited to upgrade.

When Windows 7 was introduced there was a lot of hope that it would be more like the old XP than Vista. But the IT world was cautiously waiting. Would it solve problems or add to them?

Vista was a more powerful operating system for heavy duty uses and high speed uses such as gaming than XP. So you’ll find that not everyone was unhappy with it. But now the new “7″ has the advantage of the simplicity of XP and the power of Vista. And without the glitches and the non-compatibility issues we faced with introduction of Vista. Both Vista and Win7 are better equipped to work with the now prevalent dual core and multi-core processors than was the old XP.
