I’ve recently had to face two startling facts. CBS is airing a remake of Hawaii 5-0, the TV series that starred Jack Lord as Detective Steve McGarrett and ran from 1968 to 1980; and second, the Windows Server 2008 tests have been updated to include 2008 R2.
News of the series remake is all over the TV, but I didn’t see any shiny, flashy TV commercials alerting me of the R2 update release dates. The test numbers remain the same and as far as we know, there were no 2008 R2 beta tests released. But I have heard from many of you who’ve recently taken the 70-640 , 70-642 , and 70-643 tests that the test included a disclaimer about some of the questions not counting toward the score. This usually means a beta pool of questions was tested in the live exam. I’ve since confirmed that these tests were indeed updated to include topics specific to Windows Server 2008 R2 servers and Windows 7 clients.
No one is really comfortable with change, but it’s a part of life. For my money, Jack Lord will always be Steve McGarrett. I think that if they wanted to create a new TV show about hip surfing cops on the Honolulu police force, they should have given it a different name, but they didn’t. I have to live with it. Microsoft has essentially created tests on a different operating system with the same name. I would have preferred they asked for my opinion before releasing said updates, but they didn’t. I just have to live with it.
