2010 Breakout Player: Ray Ray Armstrong « Miami Hurricanes Sports

2009 was a solid class for Miami with a good amount of True freshman contributors. Brandon McGee, Mike James, Olivier Vernon, to name a few, and perhaps the most awaited arrival of any newcomer on the team, Ray Ray Armstrong. Ray Ray got his shot at playing time early, but got his first start against Oklahoma who was then ranked 8th overall in country. Ray Ray did not disappoint, he showed up to the game ready and collected a career high 7 tackles in the big win over OU including a monstrous hit on Demarco Murray which set the tone for the defense the rest of the game. His impact quickly declined later in the season due to injuries, missing three games against Wake Forest, vs. Virginia, and at North Carolina.

2010 I predict will be a breakout year for Armstrong, by the end of it he will be a household name. With the front Seven on Miami’s defense he should be able to focus more on covering the pass this year, which he was solid at last year (was never notably out of position). He has the size and athletic ability to be make a huge impact in the defensive backfield this year. Ray Ray and Vaughn Telemaque will be alternating safety positions so expect to see Ray Ray at both safety positions this year.
