See this KB article: You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;326549 The key phrase in that KB326549 says, "Unlike the Read-only attribute for a file, the Read-only attribute for a folder is typically ignored by Windows,..." This misleading APPARENT attribute setting has been in effect for years, but Microsoft has not changed the "read-only" label, so we still see many users each year with the same problem that you are reporting. :>( Wouldn't help.
