Perhaps you could help me with your experiences. I'm planning to dictate almost all of my NaNo writing this year. My budget is tight at the moment.
Is Dragon Naturally Speaking ($62+) really better than Windows Speech Recognition (free)?
Is it more accurate?
Is it easier to use?
Can it do more things?
Your feedback would really help.
Thank you,
Dragon NaturallySpeaking is more accurate. It is easier to use and easier to get started with. It works better without training and learns better from corrections. It can do more things, but I don't personally use most of those extra things, if any.
But in value for money, free is by definition infinitely higher. (Divide by zero…) So if you have Windows 7 already, you should give it a chance. You have to be a bit lucky to get along with Vista.
I am told that Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 comes with a good headset included in the price. I already have a Plantronics headset, but if you have to buy a new microphone anyway, you might want to take this into account as well.(The headsets for NaturallySpeaking 10 and earlier are not recommended.)
