Buying a computer for a career change?
I am looking for advice on buying a new computer. I am currently a technical writer, but I am enrolled in the master's study for mathematics education. I I use a Dell at work, and an office to die Insignia for personal use. When I bought the office two years ago, I spent about $ 500 for all that was necessary for e-mail, Internet and databases. Now I'm thinking of buying a machine that Mathematica and LaTeX can handle, and, finally, I'm hoping to work with Adobe InDesign or similar containers. I have the intention to continue using my writing skills, while developing my skills in mathematics and programming. Like the work of Edward Tufte and may try to learn some of their techniques. I'm looking for a starting point. I do not know if they incline to a desktop or laptop. Many people (including Tufte) suggested that I can buy a Mac I have no budget for the new machine so we know what to consider and you can afford.
