I really want Adobe CS4 but can’t afford it right now so I purchased Adobe PhotoShop Elements 8 today from Staples for $69.99 with a $20 mail in rebate. I have used Gimp2 but it’s very limited. I give events and like to create fliers for my event. Is Elements 8 good for creating fliers for events or should I break down and pay for the CS4?

I’ve created many fliers that use a photo or two as the main element and/or clipart using Elements but if I need shaped text or a lot of graphics elements, I usually use CorelDraw, a vector graphics program. Sometimes I do the photo work with Elements, save and then import into CorelDraw to do the text. With these two programs I can do just about anything and the cost is far less than Photoshop. CorelDraw (or any vector graphics program) has a learning curve so I took a couple of inexpensive but very good classes at LVS to learn the program. Elements can do some text shapes but there’s no kerning, letter spacing/orientation or other special text controls.
