We’re upgrading software at our office and unfortunately the employee who upgraded us three years ago is gone, so I have a few questions.
I have a receipt in my file for software licensing for adobe CS1 for 12 computers, as well as the install CDs. We’re upgrading to CS3. Can I just pay for the upgrade. Also I have the install keys on the back of the CD, but nothing in the way of individual licenses or CD keys, do i need something like this or is there a way I can figure out what this would be ? Finally, we’re purchasing 6 new macs for this upgrade, will the software transfer if I pay for a CD for Mac, or will I have to buy all new licenses.
Thanks for any help you can give, if anyone knows of general resources where I can learn more about software licensing that would also be greatly appreciated.
Your software provider will provide you with guidance on this – its part of their “Value Add”.
There is no “Adobe CS1″, so its tricky to answer. For the sake of argument I’ll assume you mean Adobe Photoshop CS1 for Mac OS. If the original purchase was for the full boxed product, then the receipt and box are enough for proof of purchase and you can purchase Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Mac OS (Upgrade). You might also have bought a Volume Licence, but it sounds like you got them individually. You can “cross-platform” licences, just contact Adobe. You can also get upgrade pricing to suites if you hold components (eg. you have Adobe Photoshop CS1 for Mac OS and Adobe InDesign CS1 for Mac OS X and you want to upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium CS3 for Mac OS). Of course, the upgrade pricing varies and again your VAR will help.
